Quick Tips To Speed Up Your WordPress Blog

We all know that having a fast loading blog is good for your visitors, not only that but its even better for your search engine rankings. With all the Google updates that have been happening lately with Panda, Penguin and the EMD update, a fast loading WordPress blog is a must these days.

Here are some of my favourite quick tips that you can do on your blog to help speed up your page load times, if you want to get the best out of WordPress then i cannot recommend Wp Tune Up enough as this has helped me with my blog a lot.

I will be posting a full in depth review of Wp Tune Up in the coming days.

So onto my quick tips for today, implement these and i guarantee you will see faster loading pages on your WordPress blog.

Quick Tip 1

CSS Includes to the Top

All CSS files that are used on a web site should be included in the header section or the header.php file.

Putting CSS files in the header means that the content can be rendered progressively. This means with every CSS file that is downloaded the page, that the visitor sees, will become more complete, and thus will indicate progress to the user. [Continue Reading]

Quick Tip 2

Remove query strings from static resources

You can’t cache a link with a “?” in its URL even if a Cache-control: public header is present. The question mark acts the same as Ctrl+F5. Use query strings for dynamic resources only. SEOmoz is using two dynamic URLs with “?” because of using KISSmetrics, but 2-3 queries are reasonable ;) [Continue Reading]

Optimize Your Database Tables

As with any dynamic content management system, great part of the work your WordPress site does is related to getting, storing, removing and updating information on its database. That’s why optimizing your database tables can affect your site’s performance.
